 How Do I Become A Certifield Coach? Minimize

Step 1: Pick a stream that best represents your involvement with the sport and your goals as a coach.

The 2 streams currently available for Field Hockey are:

Stream 1: Community Sport – click here and scroll down to the “The New NCCP Model ”  for a description of this stream.

Stream 2: Competition – click here and scroll down to the “The New NCCP Model ” for a description of this stream.

Step 2: Enroll and participate in the relevant courses and evaluations involved in each stream.

Community Sport:

For full certification as a Community Coach you will need to complete:

  • The Community Coach Course  - offered by FHBC – click here for the next available courses
  • The “Make Ethical Decisions” Online Evaluation – click here to be linked to the Coaching Association of Canada’s (CAC) online evaluation

Competition:

There are 4 levels of certification currently offered.  As the NCCP is currently in transition the courses are a combination of the Old and New NCCP courses.

For full Level 1 Certification you will need to complete:

  • Level 1 Technical Course – this course is currently being revamped by Field Hockey Canada.  In it’s place you can take the Community Coach Course or FHBC’s CEM Workshops
  • Intro to Competition Part A (formerly L1 Theory) – common to all sports and as such is offered by the Coaching Association of BC (CABC).  Please click here for the next available opportunities
  • Level 1 Practical Evaluation – Self evaluation form that needs to be completed and faxed in to FHBC – click here to download form

For full Level 2 Certification you will need to complete:

  • The full requirements for L1 Certification
  • Level 2 Technical Course – offered by FHBC – click here for next available courses
  • Introduction to Competition Part B (formerly L2 Theory) - common to all sports and as such is offered by the Coaching Association of BC (CABC).  Please click here for the next available opportunities
  • Level 2 Practical Evaluation – Evaluation form that needs to be completed by a Certified Level 3 Coach and faxed in to FHBC – click here to download form

For full Level 3 Certification you will need to complete:

  • The full requirements for L2 Certification
  • Level 3 Technical Course - offered by FHBC – click here for next available courses
  • Level 3 Theory Course - common to all sports and as such is offered by the Coaching Association of BC (CABC).  Please click here for the next available opportunities
  • Level 3 Practical Evaluations – Practice and Game evaluation forms that need to be completed by a Certified Level 3 Coach and faxed in to FHBC

2013 Coaching Seminar 4th January- 6th January 2013 - Friday, January 04, 2013
FHBC will host the Annual Coach Education Seminar, January 4-6, 2013 at the Osbourne Centre at UBC. The coaching courses on offer will be Fundamentals, Learn to Train and Train to Train.  Discounted prices available for early booking.

GM Making Dreams Possible Coaching Grants - Tuesday, June 02, 2009
Dedicated to supporting athletes at all levels through coaching excellence, General Motors’ Making Dreams Possible Program has been providing one hundred $2,000 club coaching grants and ten $10,000 high performance coach grants annually to community sport clubs and high performance coaches nationwide.  Click here to be directed to application site.
