Job Description The Technical Director, Junior Program will be responsible for all aspects of player and coach development in the Vancouver Hawks FHC Junior Program. Reporting to the board and with support from administrative and coaching staff, the immediate goals for the job include: • Development and support of Junior Season coaches (particularly in the U10-U12 age groups), with an eye to their continuing involvement in the club and progression to higher levels. • Improved programs for the instruction of junior players new to the game; • Responsibility for overseeing recruitment of new players to the club to ensure that our junior programs are sustainable and continue to build. • Development and implementation of programs/pathways for capable and keen players, particularly within the Spring Season • Identification of high performance and committed players ready for higher levels of play and coordination of mentoring for them as they transition to higher levels in the club.
Job Demands This job would have heavy workload periods during preparation for the season start in April and on-field activities concentrated in March-June of each year (an estimated 150 hours). Low demand periods would include end of season evaluation, program re-design as appropriate and compiling age-appropriate (and CS4L compatible) coaching plans, across the early fall. Total hours required will depend on the skills and experience of the incumbent.
Qualifications A minimum of NCCP Level 2, plus 5 years coaching experience with players under the age of 15 is required. Applicant will preferably have an understanding of the needs of beginners as well as high-performance athletes. A willingness to implement the CS4L principles is expected. A criminal record check will be required.
Qualities of the Successful Candidate The successful candidate will have the following qualities: a love of working with children and youth, a sense of fun and an ability to bring this to bear in coaching situations, creativity and an openness to try new things, strong communication skills with both children and their parents.
Work Environment The successful candidate will work from home and will provide their own communications and computing capability. Regular travel to field locations will be necessary, particularly during March – June.
Performance Review Mutual goals and deliverables will be set at the start of the contract. A standard performance review analysis will be held at the end of the season.
Remuneration This is a part time contract job with payment scheduled in 4 portions: 1. First instalment mid- Junior season, May 15th ($2,000); 2. Second instalment at the end of the Junior Season in June ($2,000) 3. A performance based payment at a review meeting and evaluation to be completed by 15 September; following end of program evaluation and re-design process. (up to $2,000 max)
Future Role As the job develops, other programs and coaching support will be added to the position. Development of umpiring programs is included in the mandate of the Technical Director as a longer term goal. Involvement in Fall/Winter programming may also be added to the position.
