Meet the Staff of the Men's and Women's Pan Am Teams

Check out biographies of our Men's and Women's Pan Am Team Coaching Staffs - that's a lot of experience!

Background:

Following the successful Gold Medal Performances of the Women's and Men's Provincial Teams at the 2009 U16 National Championships, FHBC has been awarded the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2010 Youth Pan American Cups. FHBC is responsible for the preparation of the PAHF Teams. FHC will liaise between PAHF and FHBC during the preparation of the two teams.

FHBC's Objective:

To achieve a Top 3 Placing at the 2010 Pan American Cups, whilst preparing athletes to compete at the international level.

Youth Pan American Cups - Continental Qualifier for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games:

Men:  February 6-14, 2010 in Hermosillo, Mexico

Women:  March 13-21, 2010 in Montevideo, Uruguay

1st Youth Olympic Games:

August 14-26, 2010 in Singapore

Youth Pan Am Squad Eligibility Requirements:

In order to be considered for selection to the Youth Pan Am Cup Squad or Team, an athlete must:

  • Be a member in good standing of FHC and FHBC
  • Be eligible to represent Canada according to the regulations of FHC and the FIH
  • Be born between January 1, 1993 and December 31, 1994 as pre-determined by the PAHF
  • Be prepared to formalize selection by signing a FHBC player agreement and fulfill the obligations contained therein
  • Be able to demonstrate and meet the training and competition requirements as detailed by the Youth Pan American Cup Coaches, and Youth Pan American Cup Program
  • Achieve BC standards of 10.5 (field players) and 8.5 (goalkeepers) on the Australian version of the beep test currently being used to determine aerobic endurance

Selection and Talent Identification:

Selection of the 2009/2010 Youth Pan American Training Squad will take place at the 2009 Pan Am Camp, September 5-7, 2009.

Selection of the 2009/2010 Youth Pan American Tournament Teams will take place two months prior to the Pan Am Cup Tournaments (approximately mid-December for both teams). There will be 16 tournament team athletes identified, as well as injury reserve players.

Schedule and Commitments:

We understand that athletes, parents and coaches have multiple school and sporting commitments during the Pan Am Preparation Phase. We will devise the schedules to reduce as many potential conflicts as possible (ie. avoid examinations, AA and AAA field hockey tournaments, etc.), but we will be asking for a minimum time commitment from each athlete. The player agreement contains more specific information on this minimum commitment.

FHBC is also aware of high school hockey commitments, and would like athletes to honour commitments which are of significant importance to the placing of the high school team.  Athletes will not be able to participate in full in the high school season, because there will be some weekends you must commit to Pan Am Training and League play. We will do our very best to minimize conflicts between the Pan Am Program and the BC High School qualifying and major tournaments. It is the athlete's responsibility to message to their high school coaches, their potential commitment to this program, and its importance. We expect you to communicate your potential selection to this team to your school coach by September 5, 2009.
