The Jenny John Professional Development Award
The Jenny John Award was established by the BC Women’s Field Hockey Federation on Jenny’s retirement in August 2000. The Award honours Jenny for the unparalleled contribution she made to the Federation during her years as Provincial Coordinator from 1979-2000. During that time she created and guided the technical and development programs of the Federation. She was a source of inspiration to coaches, umpires and technical personnel and it is only fitting that an award in her name should go to someone who espouses her ideals.
PHILOSOPHY: The Jenny John Award is presented annually by the BC Women’s Field Hockey Federation and now Field Hockey BC for the promotion of technical excellence in women in sport. It is awarded to an individual who has a proven record in COACHING, UMPIRING, or JUDGING and who wishes to further her development in one of these technical areas.
DESCRIPTION: One award of up to $1000 will be made annually. However, if, in any one year, there is not a suitable candidate, smaller amounts may be considered. The successful applicant will be expected to ‘give back’ to Field Hockey BC in some practical way.
PURPOSE: The Jenny John Award is designed to provide professional development opportunities to encourage a female to improve her knowledge in the technical field.
CRITERIA: The applicant must
- Be a female member of Field Hockey BC.
- Have a proven track record in coaching, umpiring or judging
- Explain why she wishes to pursue a particular professional development opportunity
- Provide a budget for the project.
- Show how she will ’give back’ to the FHBC program after the project is completed; this would be in the form of clinics, videos, tournaments, etc.
- Provide a report on completion of the project by March 31 of the following year.
TIMELINES: Applications must be received by January 31; the Award winner will be announced by March 31 and 50% paid up front with the balance on completion of the project and submission of the report.
