FIH New Rules
FHBC Recommendation and Implementation (March 10, 2009)
Following the BC Senior Umpires Meeting on Sunday 8 March, 2009 and subsequent FHBC Board approval obtained on March 10, 2009; Field Hockey BC is recommending to all clubs, leagues and event organizers that the new rules be effective for all age groups Under 14 and above from April 1, 2009. This will be particularly applicable to the spring and summer programs in 2009 but should not regarded as solely restricted to these events. Spring and summer programs include:
BC Junior Spring Leagues
Vancouver International Tournament
BC Club Championships
Provincial Team BC Program
BC Invitational Tournament
The BC Senior Umpires Meeting involved members of the FHBC Umpiring Sub-Committee as well as BC based FIH and Can umpires from both the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. Consensus was reached regarding the interpretation of the new FIH rules (see document titled ‘Rule Interpretation with FIH Clarification’), as was agreement upon a proposal for implementation.
Please note there are two events that have been granted an exception to this recommendation, these being:
FHBC Women’s High Performance Selection Tournaments
BC Masters Tournament
Update Clinics
FHBC is organizing update clinics during March and April and we would encourage umpires to attend one of these sessions, especially senior club umpires who may then transfer this knowledge through their club structure. Please refer below to clinics that have been scheduled for the Lower Mainland -Burnaby (4), Delta (2), West Vancouver (2). Clinics are also in the process of being arranged in Victoria, Duncan and Kelowna prior to, and/or after April 1, 2009. Please see notes below regarding attendance!
