FHBC Regional/Zone Program
Athlete Evaluation Process
FHBC Regional & Zone Coaches evaluate basic skills and tactics at all age levels in the Regional & Zone Programs. Coaches evaluate specific skills, tactics and fitness, as well as provide information on intangible characteristics, as part of the regional program evaluation forms. At the U18 level the forms are submitted to BC Coaches/selectors prior to the FHBC U18 High Performance Tournament for evaluation of each tournament athlete.
The following skills and tactics are specifically evaluated:
• Ball control on the move and Possession Skills
• Dribbling and Elimination Skills
• Passing: Push pass, Hit, Sweep Hit, Reverse
• Reception: Stationary and Moving, Open and Closed
• Goal Scoring
• Tackling
• Penalty corner skills
• Decision Making and Basic Tactical Awareness (1v1, 2v1 and 3v2)
• Athleticism and Fitness (Beep test score, coordination speed and strength with and without the ball)
• Character/Attitude/Coachability (Work Ethic, Attendance)
• Intangible Characteristics: tenacity, leadership, learns quickly, versatility, consistency.
General Goal Keeping Skills which are evaluated:
• Communication skills
• Shot Blocking / Reaction Time
• Controlling Rebounds
• Positioning and movement around the circle
• Sliding / Diving
• Decision making
• Attitude/Work Ethic
• Athleticism, Agility, Coordination, Speed and Balance
