Welcome to Field Hockey BC's guide to post-secondary education for field hockey players

The Women's Field Hockey PEI Panthers started strong at the 2008 Atlantic University Field Hockey Tournament with a 9-0 win against the Acadia Axemen but fell short at the title game against the St. Mary’s Huskies.

Mikaela Ellis, a forward with the UPEI Panthers, was named to the first all-star team. Ellis is a fourth-year business student from Charlottetown and co-captain of the UPEI squad. She was named UPEI’s athlete of the year for 2007-08 and also plays on the university’s women’s hockey team.

The UPEI Panthers have ten teams playing in the Atlantic University Sport and the Canadian Interuniversity Sport. The university recognizes the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Students are encouraged to take full advantage of their great new facilities and programs.

UPEI is a hosting site for the 2009 Canada Games. The athletics facility will be the location for some of the highest profile competition for the Games as well as the closing ceremonies. In addition, UPEI will play other significant roles, notably as the Athletes’ Village for the second week, in partnership with the whole PEI community to ensure that PEI hosts a successful Games in August of 2009.

This is a positive development for UPEI, as a significant addition to the sports and athletics platform on campus. Moreover, it will enhance the University’s role as a leading site for provincial and regional sports events, and bring added benefits for student recruitment and in their role as an effective partner with the Island community.

UPEI Field Hockey Star is off to join the National Team

Sarah MacAulay of the UPEI women’s field hockey and hockey teams has been named to the senior women’s national field hockey team.

The Charlottetown native has been awarded a development card and will be reporting for team training on July 3 with the rest of the national squad in British Columbia, home base for the Canadian side.
The players will train until Sept. 5 with a two-week break at the end of July.
MacAulay will join fellow Islander Katie Baker of Argyle Shore, who has been a member of Team Canada for the past three seasons.

MacAulay has just completed her third year with the Panthers and is a former field hockey league rookie-of-the-year selection, a two-time field hockey league all-star and was named to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport All-Canadian team this past season. She also helped lead her team to three straight Atlantic titles.

MacAulay was also the women’s hockey team Mickey Place award winner for the 2007-08 season and team captain.
